My bags fit snugly between the struts and the tail lamps. The snug fit coupled with the tie offs keep the bags away from the wheels on both sides. I cut an opening where the yoke covered the regulator without compromising the strength of the bag connection. Not sure if it made any difference, but I'm a bit on the paranoid side:-)
